Kalayna has always been an avid reader and a dreamer. At ten she raided her father's fantasy fiction bookcase and her already active imagination went into hyperdrive. It wasn't long after that she decided she wanted to write, and at thirteen she began her first novel--one of many novel beginnings she would write over the coming years that would go to the unfinished novel graveyard. It wasn't until college that she finally finished a full length manuscript, and years after that before she was satisfied she'd produced something publishable.
While Kalayna always knew she would be a 'writer' someday, she never dreamed she would be an artist. She took her first art class during her senior year in high school, and didn't take another until three years later. In 2004 she took her very first painting class and immediately fell in love with oil paints. Oils remain her favored medium to this day, though she dabbles in water colors and would like to have more experience in the medium. Her work has appeared locally in several shows but her true wish for her art is to have the skill to create illustrations and cover art (not for her own writing.)
